The Sierra Leone Ministry of Information and Communication (MoIC) and its media partners have announced the commencement of a major National Media Viability and Investment Conference in Freetown, in recognition of the important role of public interest media in open, developed, and prosperous societies.
The media viability conference is consistent with the new direction government's manifesto and President Julius Maada Bio's commitment to have a pluralistic, independent, and engaging media as a tool for national development. A media that work in the public interest are essential tools to advance democracy, prosperity and stability. When the media is free and professional, it is able to facilitate a much needed constructive dialogue between government and citizens and across diverse communities. The right to information is an essential human right.
