9 truck load of free health care commodities for PCMH and Ola During Hospitals

30/10/2019: as usual the Ministry of Health and Sanitation embarked on the third rounds of distribution of free health care commodities  starting with the Western Urban District Health Management Team, PCMH and Ola During Children Hospitals in Freetown. The distribution is spearheaded by the new National Medical Supply Agency which mandate is to procure, store and distribute in a transparent   and cost effective  manner. 

The Managing Director of the Agency Dr. Laurence Sandy said his Agency is a year old  but has assured all concerned that the distribution will be on a quarterly routine across the country. He advised advised  to service providers to reach out to beneficiaries in the most vulnerable communities, adding that no one should abuse drugs.

The scheme was initially meant for pregnant and lactating women and children under five years but under the current political leadership of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation Professor Alpha Wurie the Free health care opportunity  has been extended to Ebola Survivors and the physically challenged persons.  The ministry is working on the resuscitation of cost recovery drugs programme in line with universal health coverage and hence Sustainable Development Goals and global health security. 

The Deputy Managing Director National Medical Supply Agency Dr.  Moses Batema also stressed the need for quality health service delivery in Sierra Leone.

The ministry of health is moving in the right direction in saving lives of Sierraleoneans.

The Directorate of Drugs and Medical Supplies was represented by the Store Manager Mr. Musa Seppeh who actually talked on Government budgetary allocation towards the procurement of free health care commodities so as to take ownership of the scheme.
