His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio on Sunday 28th July
2019 launched the
National Market Women Secretariat (NAMSEC) and fund raising program at the
Bintumani Conference Hall, Aberdeen.
NAMSEC is an initiative of market women across the country that has received the
full support of First Lady Mrs Fatima Bio in recognition of the pivotal role market
women play in nation building.
Addressing the women at the impressive ceremony, His Excellency Rtd, Big.
Julius Maada Bio underscored the significance of women in society which he said
is most times taken for granted or not even recognized.
He admonished the market women to invest in their children, saying they are the
greatest assets who will benefit their families and the nation. He said his
government remained committed to ensuring that the free quality education
benefits every child irrespective of tribe, region or political affiliation.
According to President Bio, women are the bread winners in most homes, hence
should be capacitated, emphatically stating that his obligation is to every Sierra
President Bio encouraged the market women to embrace peace and unity and pay
keen attention to delivery on the promises he made in the run-up to the elections.
“Most politicians make empty promises, but my government is committed to
making Sierra Leone a safe haven before the end of my term in office,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the market women, First Lady Madam Fatima Bio thanked
President Julius Maada Bio for making the issues of market women, the launching
and fundraising ceremony his top most priority.
