In what can be described as a bold and ambitious step forward, Sierra Leone is for the first time taking part in this year's ITU Telecom World '17 opening today, 25th September 2017 in the South Korean second "smart" capital city of Busan.
The ITU annual event provides a world platform to accelerate ICT innovation for social good and economic growth. It further provides an opportunity to engage, share and debate best practice with experts from across the ICT ecosystem.
The country will showcase its broadband infrastructure and digitization programs. It is country represented by a combined delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Information and Communications, the National Telecoms Commission (NATCOM) and the Sierra Leone Cable Company (SALCAB), headed by Hon Sidi Tunis who is representing the Minister of Information and Communications.The delegation was also profiled by Sierra Leone's Ambassador to South Korea, HE Omerie Golley.
The country's recognition by the world body was climaxed by the visits of the ITU Secretary General and high powered entourage.ITU Secretary General, Houlin Zhao presents an Award of Excellence and Commitment at the Telecoms World Exhibition '17 in Busan, South Korea, to the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM).As ITU brings down the curtain on the 2017 ITU Telecom World events, Sierra Leone recieves two certificates. This is the first time Sierra Leone is participating in this event.
