Nigeria High Commissioner pays courtesy call on Minister of Lands

On Wednesday 1st of August, 2018, the Minister of Lands, Housing and the Environment Dr. Denis Sandy and His Deputy Minister Rex Bhonapha, alongside senior Professionals receives   a courtesy call from the Nigerian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr. Habiss Ibrahim Ugbada and Team at his Youyi Building Office in Freetown. The primary objective according to the High Commissioner among others was to congratulate the Lands Minister on His new appointment and to bring to his notice issues relating to some of the High Commission’s properties in Sierra Leone.

The Hon. Minister of Lands, Housing and the Environment welcomed H.E.  Dr. Ugbada to his Ministry and congratulated him for the surprise visit. He assured him of the Ministry’s commitment under the Bio administration for proper coordination and collaboration in achieving the desired results. 

Dr. Sandy gave a brief status update of the Ministry and the explained the next steps in achieving a well-planned and sustained Land and Environmental governance system in Sierra Leone. He disclosed that some restructuring has been done in the Ministry and that the process of Land acquisition has been reviewed to meet the current demand for land, Housing and Environmental Services in the country. He also made mention of the challenges faced by the 

Ministry, sighting the high scale of land grabbing and the lack of equipment in achieving the set goals.
H.E. Dr. Ugbada expressed uttermost pleasure meeting with the lands Minister and reiterating the fact that Nigeria and Sierra Leone have enjoyed ties of relationships and Nigeria is always ready to corporates with Sierra Leone.

He mentioned the concerns of the Certificate of Occupancy to be granted to the High Commission for some of their properties in Sierra Leone. 

He promised an open door and mutual respect relationship to the Ministry.

Dr. Sandy stated that he will work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to resolve the concerns raised by the High Commissioner. He noted the need for technical and capacity support for the Ministry and encouraged Dr. Ugbada to remember the Ministry when those opportunities are available.
