MIC on National Information Policy

Information Directorate, Youyi Building, Sierra Leone, and Monday 6th August, 2018-The Ministry of Information and Communications through the Media Reform Coordinating Group MRCG with the support of UNDP has conducted a consultative forum on the guidelines for developing a National Information Policy for the Directorate of Information at the Ministry of Information and Communications on the 31st July 2018. 

This event was witnessed by the participation of key stakeholders notably the senior staff of the Ministry of Information, Head of Parliamentary Committee on Information and Communication, Media Experts, Information Officers and Members of MRCG.

The MRCG Chairman, Francis Sowa underscored the need to have a platform that coordinates media development in Sierra Leone. He noted that the policy formulation is meant for the Directorate of Information to enhance structure information dissemination to the gullible public. 

The lead consultant, Prof. Richard Mbayo in his presentation explained the draft policy thereby taken into consideration three key steps, noting that the said policy would be proactive, progressive and participatory. He said the policy itself is a "People Centered" approach to advocate in investment in human capabilities such as education, health and skills, advocates in fair distribution of economic growth across society and the provision for everyone to participate in the economic and political activities of the country.

The consultative meeting was climaxed by diverse contributions among participants which were considered relevant in finalizing the policy.
