The Ministry of Information and Communication together with key stakeholders have concluded a three days validation workshop on the 2016 National ICT, Cyber Security and Digital Migration draft policies. The workshop which took place at the Miatta Conference Centre from 1st – 3rd June 2016, attracted members from the private sector, the academia and relevant regulators operating the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector.
The National ICT Policy 2016 is Government’s intention to address critical policy and regulatory areas that are needed in order to lay the basis of transforming Sierra Leone into a knowledge society, positioning the country for inclusive sustainable socio-economic development leveraging the opportunities ICT provides.
Officially opening the workshop, the Minister of Information and Communication, Hon Mohamed Bangura, eulogized the importance of participants who have been carefully selected to review the draft policies.
“I cannot take this document to Cabinet and eventually to Parliament without your invaluable input”, he stated.
He implored all to put Sierra Leone first as they discuss the document because the validity of the policies is going to put Sierra Leone among other developed countries of the digital world.
The National ICT policy is an update to the 2009 National ICT Policy and Strategy.
