The Minister of Health and Sanitation Prof. Alpha Wurie has requested each and every Paramount Chief to serve as a Frontline to scale up quality health service delivery at both Community and Chiefdom levels so as to grant right to every Sierraleonean to access essential health care services.
This innovative participatory drive of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation is in line with global health security and universal health coverage aimed at providing free and quality health care services for everyone irrespective of your region, colour, tribe and economic status. In a desperate quest by the current political leadership of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation Professor Alpha Wurie to decentralize Clinical and Laboratory services across the country, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation is now collaborating with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development to decentralized health care services throughout the country. The reason being that over the years the Ministry had done a lot to save innocent lives but little or nothing is realized among Chiefdom and Community Dwellers probably due to the non participatory approach to service delivery and programme implementation.
There are about 1500 well resourced Health Facilities including: secondary and primary referrals, Peripheral and Community Health Facilities with trained and qualified personnel but due to poor hygiene practices, poverty, strong cultural beliefs among others, these Resources are grossly under utilized thereby giving rise to high prevalence of disease and public health emergency. However, with the participatory bottom up approach of the Ministry of Health, our traditional ruralers now formed part of the life saving initiative of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to raise awareness and change negative attitude of their subjects towards health care issues.
The regional Health sensitization meeting which started in the Northern Regional Headquarter town of Makeni on 21st October will be replicated in the Southeastern Regional Headquarters Cities of Bo and Kenema from 22 to 23 October,2019 respectively with full participation of officials from Ministries of Health and Local Government, Civil Society Organization and Development Agencies.
