A Senior Labour and Employment Officer in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Abu Barr Sillah has informed stakeholders for the security and development of Karena District that the National Labour Migration Policy is to ensure Sierra Leoneans seeking employment in overseas are protected and gainfully employed.
He disclosed to the people, at the town hall in Kamakwe town that most Sierra Leoneans, particularly house maids in the middle East who are victims of inhuman and undignified treatments were trafficked, instead of going through the authoritative agencies.
Mr. Sillah called on the people to report any secret recruiting activities in their localities to the police as government has revoked all the licenses of the previous registered recruiting agencies and also banned the recruitment of house maids to the outside world.
He spoke on the relevance of Decent work country program in employment which the government want to ensure is applicable to all Sierra Leoneans workers at home and abroad.
He said decent work does not only deals with better renumeration for worlers but also the protection of workers against discrimination.
The Deputy Chief Administrator, Karena District Council, Madieu Kallon, expressed the need to further strengthening the collaborative efforts in minimizing extortion and human right abuses experience by people intending to work or working abroad.
