Desert Flower Africa Limited (DFAL) which is an NGO with the mandate of saving girls from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancy, early marriage, amongst other ills by empowering them with education, have yet again provided finance described as school support and other welfare support to pupils of Anerdan School situated in Upper Allen Town, Freetown and also to pupils of Saint Francis Catholic School in Newton in the Western Rural Area.

Addressing the beneficiaries of such support, Michael Bamie Sam who is the Project Coordinator for DFAL said that his organization seeks to promote girl child education but however, admonished the parents of such beneficiaries that DFAL does not make room for FGM, Child Marriage, teenage pregnancy, etc, and that the girl child should only and if possible give consent to such harmful practices when she is 18 years of age.

Michael B. Sam emphasized that his organization stresses on girl child education and that when the girl child receives the requisite education, there is no way she can embrace such barbaric practices that still have a firm grip in society.

He disclosed also that DFAL which has been operating in Sierra Leone since 2014 could boast of 1,000 girls across the country and for instance, he outlined that in Bo, DFAL have about 287 girls, Magboruka 33, Lungi 57, Newton 44, Allen Town (in Freetown) 117, Dwarzack (in Freetown) 50 and in the Central part of Freetown 412.

“Such girls are supported by DFAL from primary school to university,” he informed.

Fatu Kamara who is parent to one of the beneficiaries disclosed that her child who is now in JSS 1 have been benefiting from such support since way back in Primary School, and that as a single parent she totally frowns against FGM, Child Marriage, etc, and remained very grateful to DFAL.
