The China Agro-tech Team for the 13th Phase Agricultural Technology Cooperation Project, a sponsor program by the Chinese government in Sierra Leone has been delivering anticipated commitment to extremely transform agricultural cultivation in rice and maize production in Western Area Rural and Urban districts.
Qian Wanwu, Interpreter of the above Cooperation briefed this medium that the project tends in empowering local farmers to espouse modernize methods of agricultural practices, especially in training farmers on rice and maize production which they have demonstrated at their different plots across their working sights.
He doubles that the technology for planting rice and maize production in China is very high; hence, they do support local farmers with training, machinery and seedlings, rice and maize in order to execute similar agricultural technology to their different farming plots, which now in return has been provided dividend harvest to farmers.
He continued that the cooperation does working to improve the farmers’ rice year; however, in several means it will provide more food across the country. Their technical support is also presence in the Bo district
Madam Jane Fea Kabba SeiSillah District Agricultural Officer (DAO) Western Rural and Urban Districts applauded the efforts of the Chinese group for introducing technology agricultural practices to farmers who are now benefiting significant yields at their variety of agricultural cultivation in the country.
She noted that Oogu farm has over one thousand beneficiaries’ farmers who solely depend on rice and vegetable production, since the inception of such project, farmers have now started to adopt the technology approach of farming.
Noting that, such development partners that have come to their aid in addressing food security in the country need to be embraced but one of the pending challenges at Oogu Farm, one of the agricultural working sight of the China project is experiencing challenge especially the dam they only depend on to circulate water into the farming swamp land has been encroached.
This happened when one individual erected a house on-top of the dam that now makes the water to pass intermittently and it has gravely caused a problem for agricultural activities at Oogu farm, she therefore, calling on government through the Western Rural District Council for an immediate resolution to such issue.
