The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and its partners have joined other countries in the world to commemorate World Food Day, an exceptional occasion that recognizes the desirous efforts of farmers as well as discuss pertinent issues and applicable remedies to address Food Security in the country which will further achieve Zero Hunger by 2030.
Sam-King Brima, Deputy Agriculture Minister, described the celebration as a way of joining citizens in the provinces - Port-Loko - to showcase their commitment towards addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 - Zero Hunger by 2030.
Addressing his audience on the theme of the celebration “Our Actions are Our Future" he pointed out that the ministry and its partners are always in the position of taking giant steps to address hunger in Sierra Leone.
The government, according to him, has been making moves by bringing in investors to invest in Agriculture including Cagla FS Group, a Turkish company that joins a lot of local partners to put into productive service 54,000 Hecters of Land in Tomabom, Bonthe district, an area that will become "the Rice Bowl of Sierra Leone.
Despite the progress being made there are still challenges such as support to farmers and the effect of climate change, it was observed at the event.
