A team of investors from ‘APR Energy Company’ based in the United States has done a power point presentation in the ministry’s conference room on the generation of 60MW electricity.
The presentation was done during a technical meeting in the presence of engineers from EGTC, EDSA and the Ministry.
The head of the visitors informed that the 60MW power would be generated through gas turbine fills. He said that it is a short term investment they have planned within three months for Sierra Leone, but could be increased to more than the 60MW within two years for long term solution.
He considered similar investments of 600MW in different Africa countries including Ghana and Senegal. He disclosed that the cost of the 60MW project is $100 million, adding that the project is cheaper in terms of cost and could produce clean energy.
Addressing the investors, the Director of Energy in the Ministry, Ing Benjamin Kamara, explained that there is a roadmap designed by the Government of Sierra Leone to develop the energy sector to actualize energy accessibility and sustainability by 2030.
He said their arrival to Sierra Leone was timely as the country is in dire need of electricity generation and distribution and noted that after the presentation, the technical advisers would proffer necessary technical advice on what needs to be done.
