SALPOST was established by Government to provide postal services across the country. However, weakened by the civil war as most of its facilities were destroyed across the country, and with the emergence of the new media, the greatest challenge facing the industry is how to transform the institution into a modern day means of communications – i.e. provision of internet services, photocopying facilities, resource centres, etc. so as to diversify its revenue base. Additionally, the Postal Services Regulatory Agency Act has been passed by Parliament and the Ministry is duty bound to ensure that the provisions of the Act are fully implemented.
